The SQL Server DBA/Architect role is a full-time position responsible for the administration, design, and architecture of SQL Server databases. The job involves ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability of databases, collaborating with various IT stakeholders, and implementing high availability and disaster recovery solutions. The DBA/Architect will also play a key role in monitoring and tuning database performance and maintaining comprehensive documentation.
Responsibilities:
Database Administration:
- Manage and administer SQL Server databases for optimal performance and security.
- Implement backup and recovery strategies and conduct regular testing.
- Database Design and Architecture:
- Design and implement database architecture based on business requirements.
- Collaborate with application developers to ensure efficient database utilization.
- Security and Compliance:
- Implement and maintain database security protocols and ensure compliance with regulations.
- Conduct security audits and implement corrective measures.
- High Availability and Disaster Recovery:
- Design and implement solutions for high availability and disaster recovery.
- Regularly test backup and recovery procedures.
- Performance Monitoring and Tuning:
- Monitor database performance and optimize through tuning and query optimization.
- Recommend hardware and software upgrades for performance improvements.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with IT teams for seamless integration of database systems.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior DBA staff.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements
Documentation:
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations and procedures.
- Develop and enforce database standards and best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Proven experience as an SQL Server DBA with a strong understanding of database architecture and administration.
- In-depth knowledge of SQL Server features, including replication, clustering, and Always On availability groups.
- Proficiency in T-SQL scripting for automation and maintenance tasks.
- Experience with performance monitoring tools and troubleshooting techniques.
- Familiarity with data security and compliance standards.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Microsoft Certified: SQL Server certification
- Experience with cloud database services (e.g., Azure SQL Database).
- Knowledge of other database systems (e.g., MySQL, Oracle).
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools.
